Earlier this year I was able to speak to the squadron of fliers who saved my ass the night I was wounded. It was pretty emotional. I was fortunate to actually meet 4 of the crew that were on the bird that came into medevac (medical evacuation) me out of a nasty firefight.
Today I received a message from the wife one of them and her family. They included this pic:
It made me think about how lucky we are to live in this country and to be able to share these freedoms that people like this family provide.
They sent me this pic to show their support for Spike’s, and I appreciate it. It is important for everyone to know that were it not for this family, and other families like them, there would be no Spike’s.
I get a lot of joy and satisfaction out of the things we do as an organization. We exist and accomplish goals because of so many different people.
Sometimes it is overwhelming to experience the outpouring of love and support that comes with just “helping a few Dogs.”
On this Christmas, I hope you and yours are happy and warm and feeling love. I sure am.
I’m grateful for the many humans and Dogs that have touched my life in ways I sometimes only realize slowly and over time.
To the family in this picture, a family still personally invested in keeping our nation free, I say thank you.
Thank you for risking it all to serve us.
Thank you for supporting Spike’s K9 Fund from before it’s inception til today.
I love you guys and am proud to call you friends.
Merry Christmas everyone.
